Information Board at Castle
Visitors to Usk Castle will be able to learn a lot more about
the Castle and the surrounding area, following the recent
installation of a new information board.
The board, which was commissioned to mark the Queen's Diamond
Jubilee, depicts the places of interest that can be seen from
the castle, and adds a timeline of the castle's history.
'I think it's fantastic,' said Henry Humphries, whose family has
lived at the castle for a century. 'Usk Castle Friends, who
support us in so many ways, kindly put all the effort and the
money into helping design and create this excellent addition
which replaces an old information board. It makes the castle's
history easy to follow and means visitors will leave with a
better understanding of what Usk Castle is all about.'
The boards was designed and created by David Evans and Sher
McCabe-Finlayson of Platform One in Monmouth, with help from
Stella Collard, Treasurer of Usk Castle Friends.
'We feel very privileged to have done this work,' said David.
'We really enjoy doing this sort of interpretative work, and
hope castle visitors will spend a lot of time enjoying adding to
their knowledge of this magical place.'
The timeline which comprises the lower part of the board was
written on parchment by Stella. David then scanned it in
sections, rejoined the pieces, and dropped them into place on
the already-created artwork showing the view from the castle
green.
'We were delighted to be able to support this excellent addition
to the castle's visitor facilities,' said Elizabeth Baker, Chair
of Usk Castle Friends. 'It is particularly satisfying that it
also marks the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. We run events throughout
the year to raise awareness of the castle, so it's really
worthwhile that, when visitors do arrive at the castle, they
will now be able to make more of their visit.'
